Investment Story

Founded by Mike, Sam, and Chris on the South Coast of Portsmouth in early 2010, Compass launched to focus on the independent UK senior living markets, quickly growing to encompass the healthcare, and specialist care markets within the next two years.
As demand for our services increased, so too did headcount in the group. Offices were opened in London, then Manchester, with executive search added to our offerings to support executive leadership and C-suite appointments.
During this time, Compass’ focus has remained concentrated on our core expertise of the independent and privately owned health and care sector. Globally, populations are ageing, and the demand for the underlying markets has seen elective care, and personalised care become more in demand than ever, supporting growth naturally.
Growth Strategy
As markets have evolved, so too have we. In 2022 CRS was created as the parent company through which our dedicated brands operate. The suite of services offered through the group gives clients a wide range of options ranging from premium contingent recruitment, fully retained executive search; through to advisory services, embedded solutions, and established RPO models of delivery.
Owing to the clear market focus of the brands, cross-selling across adjacent markets or portfolio companies, and cascade-selling of functional seniority present opportunities to clients looking for a single supplier to support all in aspects of recruitment. This competitive advantage of a multi-brand offering ensures full market coverage, and full confidence to clients of CRS.
Fast-forward to today, and we’ve seen:
Private Equity Investment into CRS
2024 saw CRS become a member “of the herd” when private equity investor, Cow Corner, became a majority owner to enable the group to accelerate organic and inorganic growth, marking a significant milestone for the business.
With their support, there has been significant international growth across all operating brands, with headcount in North America, and increasing market coverage into MENA being recorded.

Carrot Life Sciences was welcomed into the group as part of the first acquisition into the house of brands in 2023. Signifying new market entry into the adjacent life sciences sector, the acquisition coincided with Compass’ own efforts at launching a biopharmaceutical focused recruitment brand specialising on pre-clinical and discovery workforce solutions. The operation was subsequently rolled into Carrot as a single entity to provide recruitment services across the full drug development life cycle.
In 2024, the acquisition of Carter Schwartz – a leading executive search name to the investor backed healthcare markets – led to the merger with Compass Executives, resulting in the creation of the market-leading Compass Carter Osborne brand. The dedicated healthcare retained executive search and advisory services brand in the group, CCO has been recognised as winners of search firm of the year on multiple occasions since.
Most recently in 2025, CRS completed the acquisitions of Consult Search & Selection, and Medexec, the Leeds-based recruitment and executive search brands dedicated to the allied healthcare, medtech, and medical device markets with a focus on supporting the international markets – particularly in North America. Complementing the life sciences strategic focus of the group, the recent additions have helped to accelerate and build growth across the international markets through broadening specialisms and geographies through which CRS operate.
